Remote high-elevation ridgeline with extensive montane red oak with variable patches of hay scented fern and/or mountain aster.;High elevation ridgeline on acidic sandstone geology. Bedrock "backbone" boulders are in plot. Forest is dominated by stunted, contorted red oaks with red maple abundant in subcanopy. Heaths, including mountain cranberry and high bush blueberry dominate the ground cover in this small patch, mixed with herbs and ferns typical of matrix forest.
